Why stocking dates matter
State hatcheries release millions of trout into public lakes and streams every year. Freshly stocked fish are hungry, bunched together and easy to catch, so the first days after a stocking are often the best fishing of the season.
The catch is that each state publishes this information differently: some as spreadsheets, some as weekly PDFs, some on maps. Stocked Lakes collects it into one simple page per water, so you can see when it was last stocked, what went in, and when it usually gets fish.
Always check your state's current fishing regulations before you go. Seasons, limits and special rules vary by water.
